The Laramie Project

After reading this play, I would say it was very worthwhile to read in class. Mostly it is important because bullying is a really problem and connects with issues of gay hate crimes, that are really problems in society today. Not only can kids be bullied for being gay, many kids get picked on everyday and this story shows us the extreme. I believe this book is important for people to read because it shows people that hating another person for something that doesn't affect you is just plain stupid.
First of all, in the play most of the people that live in Laramie seem to act like it was a crime to be gay. They would say thing like, if I was gay I wouldn't talk about it or let anyone know.  This is just wrong because they all were basically saying that most people in laramie actually did hate gay people. This shows how ignorant some people are, I don't think its okay to judge someone you have never met and just because they are open about being gay you hate them enough to kill them. I felt like this was a really good book to read in class because the story showed the class that everyone needs to be more accepting of each other.
Overall the play outlined why being gay can be dangerous, because of people that disagree with the way some people feel. For me it showed why being accepting of other people is so important and that if you really dislike something about someone its better to just stay away from that person, not kill them over hatred. In conclusion, this play help show everyone the problems with being gay in a straight society.
